AFFORDABLE HOUSING RESOURCE CENTER
Web site powered by the City of New York to help apartment seekers and homebuyers navigate the affordable housing market to find a suitable program that meets their specific household and economic situation.
COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE UNIT (CAU)
The Community Assistance Unit (CAU) assists citizens in making New York City a better place to live and work by addressing issues of the community. CAU’s borough liaisons maintain contact with New York’s 59 Community Boards, grassroots neighborhood and block associations. Constituents can call their borough liaison if a city agency appears to be less than responsive in dealing with a complaint.
DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & TELECOMMUNICATIONS (DOITT)
The New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) oversees the City's use of existing and emerging technologies in government operations, and its delivery of services to the public. DoITT works to improve the government's efficiency through technology, and to make communication with the government straightforward and clear.

DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING PRESERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT (HPD)
The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is the largest municipal developer of affordable housing in the nation. HPD's mission is to promote the affordability, availability, and quality of housing across New York City. HPD works with its governmental, community, non-profit and for-profit partners to strengthen neighborhoods, increase the availability of well-maintained, affordable housing and enable more New Yorkers to become homeowners.
THE NEW YORK CITY HOUSING AUTHORITY (NYCHA)
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) provides decent and affordable housing in a safe and secure living environment for low- and moderate-income residents throughout the five boroughs. NYCHA also administers a citywide Section 8 Leased Housing Program in rental apartments. In order to fulfill this mission, NYCHA must preserve its aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of its developments. NYCHA works to enhance quality of life by offering residents social services that give them opportunities to participate in a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives.
DEPARTMENT OF CITY PLANNING
The Department of City Planning is responsible for the City's physical and socioeconomic planning, including land use and environmental review; preparation of plans and policies; and provision of technical assistance and planning information to government agencies, public officials, and community boards. The responsibilities of the Director of City Planning, who also serves as Chair of the City Planning Commission, include advising and assisting the Mayor, the Borough Presidents, and the City Council in regard to all matters related to the development and improvement of the city, as well as assisting the Mayor in the preparation of strategic plans that have long-term implications for the City.
NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS (DOB)
By enforcing New York City’s Building Code, Electrical Code, Zoning Resolution, Labor Laws and Multiple Dwelling laws, DOB is able to ensure the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties. The Department executes a number of activities including planning examinations, issuing construction permits, inspecting properties, and licensing trades.
NEW YORK CITY COMPTROLLER
The New York City Comptroller, an independently elected official, is the Chief Financial Officer of the City of New York. The mission of the office is to ensure the financial health of New York City by advising the Mayor, the City Council, and the public of the City's financial condition. The Comptroller also makes recommendations on City programs and operations, fiscal policies, and financial transactions.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK
The New York City Council is the law-making body of the City of New York. It is comprised of 51 members from 51 different Council Districts throughout the five boroughs. The Council monitors the operation and performance of city agencies, makes land use decisions and has sole responsibility for approving the city's budget. It also legislates on a wide range of other subjects. The Council is an equal partner with the Mayor in the governing of New York City.
NEW YORK CITY RENT GUIDELINES BOARD (RGB)
The Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) is mandated to establish rent adjustments for dwelling units in New York City subject to the Rent Stabilization Law. The Board holds an annual series of public meetings and hearings to consider research from staff, and testimony from owners, tenants, advocacy groups and industry experts.
NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
The Department of Finance is tasked with the duties of collecting the City’s revenues, encouraging compliance with the City tax and other revenue laws, valuing all real property, maintaining property records, and for providing a public forum to dispute tax and parking violation liability.

NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY RENEWAL (DHCR)
The Division of Housing and Community Renewal is responsible for the supervision, maintenance and development of affordable low- and moderate-income housing in New York State. The Division performs a number of activities in fulfillment of this mission.
NEW YORK STATE COMPTROLLER
The Office of the State Comptroller monitors, reports on, and coaches other public entities, and works to ensure that governments at all levels are discharging their responsibilities in an efficient, effective, and timely manner.

The New York State Attorney General is the State’s chief legal officer who serves as the guardian of New York’s legal rights on behalf of their citizens, organizations and natural resources. The Office of the Attorney General advises the Executive branch and defends the actions and proceedings on the State’s behalf.

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD)
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is the federal agency responsible for national policy and programs that address America's housing needs that improve and develop the Nation's communities, and enforce fair housing laws. HUD's business is helping create a decent home and suitable living environment for all Americans, and it has given America's communities a strong national voice at the Cabinet level. HUD plays a major role in supporting homeownership by underwriting homeownership for lower- and moderate-income families through its mortgage insurance programs.
THE OFFICE OF POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH (PD &R) AND HUD USER

The Census Bureau serves as the leading source of quality data about the nation's people and economy. The Census Bureau conducts censuses of economic activity and state and local governments every five years. And every year, the Census Bureau conducts more than 100 other surveys. The sole purpose of the censuses and surveys is to collect general statistical information from individuals and establishments in order to compile statistics. The Census Bureau is headed by a director, who is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate.
